KAC DISTRICT 6 MINUTES, 5/25/2019
The monthly meeting was held at the Hutchinson Community College Parker Student Union, 1400 N Plum. Sixteen members and guests were welcomed by D6 President Jim Potter.
People in the room introduced themselves and (those who wanted to) told a little about their writing interests.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read.
The Treasurer's Report showed an account balance of $3,877.27.
Announcements were made and handouts were provided for those present.
The speaker was Roy Beckemeyer from Wichita, KS. He is the Kansas Authors Club Poetry Writer of the Year 2013, and 2015-2018. His latest book of poetry is Stage Whispers (2018). Roy is an engaging, generous, and encouraging poet who left us transported by his readings and inspired by his talent. In addressing some of the specific concerns individuals had he suggested ways of networking with other poets, gaining exposure, strategies for staying focused and creative, and shared the habits that work for him. He provided a handout with several writing prompts to encourage imagination and techniques to jump-start one's writing. Those who wanted shared the result of the exercises.
